Capscan To Help Public Sector In Northern Ireland In Responding To Citizen’s Fears Of Lost Data

Government Computing Northern Ireland; Stand 9; Thursday 22nd May 2008;
Belfast Waterfront

Capscan, a leading supplier of international address management solutions and data integrity services, will demonstrate at Government Computing Northern Ireland (GCNI), how public sector organisations can use Matchcode Pointer to streamline resources, whilst improving the quality-of-service to citizens, by ensuring personal information is provided to the right person every time.

Government departments are under media scrutiny following high-profile cases of data loss and as the Managing Director of Capscan, Terry Hiles explains, “With incidents of identity theft and fraud increasing, the public are rightly concerned about their personal information falling into the wrong hands. A tightening of address management and data procedures is an important step in safeguarding data that is private between government and citizen.”

In May 2004, Postwatch reported that a total of 500,000 letters were lost in Northern Ireland each year. Today, with software systems such as Matchcode Pointer now available – the most complete address management software system that contains a complete authoritative database of all 805,000 properties in Northern Ireland – there is no excuse for such a high figure to ever be repeated.

Matchcode Pointer is available as a stand-alone software program for interactive data capture, or as a tool for batch postcoding and address cleansing. It checks through the database using powerful searching tools, adding postcodes and inserting missing address elements (even abbreviations, misspellings and incomplete addresses can be identified). It provides the option to return additional fields such as accurate grid co-ordinates, townland names, business classifications and unique property reference numbers as well as other useful property profiling information.

Within the Matchcode Pointer database is infrastructural support, containing unrivalled detailed address information including building numbers and names, postcodes, secondary thoroughfare and locality information (where available), post town, building status, organisation and department name, sub-occupancy details, unique geo-codes, unique property reference numbers (UPRN), business names, delivery point status and derived business use information, and detailed business classification information.

Visitors to the event will also be able learn about Capscan’s new range of hosted address management services, Capscan OnDemand and the online data cleansing service, Capscan Integrity.
